Tuesday, June 23, 2020: The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Kenya) held a virtual public forum on the Economics of Reopening Schools amidst Covid-19 pandemic. The panelists talked about expected learning losses during current school closures and strategies to help students academically once schools reopen; the capacity of schools to maintain safe operations to mitigate risks such as mass testing and social distancing; the level of exposure between the school population and higher-risk groups such as the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions, if exposure is high, can sufficient mitigation efforts be taken?
The panelists included; Mr. Kwame Owino, CEO at IEA-Kenya; Prof. Lukoye Atwoli, Director of Research and Development at Cities Rise and Dr. Andrew Rasugu Riechi, Board Member at UNESCO Institute of Statistics.
