The Institute of Economic Affairs held a two day workshop on Social Accountability for Executive Officers of the County of Elgeyo Marakwet. The workshop held at The Pearl Hotel between 27 and 29 September, started with opening remarks by the Country Secretary, Mr. Paul Chemuttut. In attendance were including among others: Directors, Heads of Departments, Administrators including Sub-County Administrators, budget officers, planning officers, and members of the County Complaints and Compliments Committee. The activity is one among eight of the kind in the project Promoting Social and Economic Rights through Participatory and Accountable Governance funded by DANIDA through Uraia. The objective of the workshop was to introduce participants to social accountability tools and mechanisms and their relevance to better service delivery under devolved governance, and contribute to opening spaces for engagement between Civil Society Organizations and Government Officers. Key outcome of the workshop was commitment by the County Government to engagement with CSOs undertaking social accountability initiatives in the county.
