Since the introduction of multi-party politics in Kenya, the national elections have been characterized by deep anxiety. However, the elections held at the end of 2002 were especially tension prone because of the impending retirement of the incumbent president and the on-going constitutional review process. However, a new government was elected and the anxiety reduced.
